HARROGATE Railway lost their must-win home clash against Yorkshire rivals Ossett Albion 3-1 in the Evo-Stick First Division North.
It was harsh on Nigel Danby’s side who started the brighter and dominated for large spells.
His men went 1-0 down on eight minutes when Adam Hayton’s free-kick somehow squirmed through the hands of Craig Parry and into the back of the net.
Rail’ regrouped and had a number of chances to draw level. Finally they did on 22 minutes when Jon Maloney curled a beauty past Jody Barford in the Ossett net.
Danby’s side came out strongly in the second period. But two key turning points went the way of the visitors and with it the chance of any points slipped away for the Station View side.
First they made it 2-1 when young centre back Jack Fisher misjudged the bounce of the ball, Kurtis Noble ran onto it and slotted the ball past Parry.
Then with Rail’ chasing the game Simon Parkes picked up a second yellow card to put his side further on the back foot.
Danby’s side looking exposed at the back and it was the visitors who made it three late on through Joe Fox’s superb volley in the closing stages.
In the Blue Square North HARROGATE TOWN, lead at FC Halifax through a Chib Chilaka strike. But they ended up losing 3-1.
They return to action on Tuesday night at home to Corby.
In the West Yorkshire League, RIPON CITY moved to the top of the pile with a 3-2 away win at Carlton Athletic.
BOROUGHBRIDGE beat East End 2-0.
KNARESBOROUGH TOWN, meanwhile, beat WETHERBY ATHLETIC 2-1.
