Tadcaster Albion required a late penalty from Jimmy Beadle to rescue a point out of their trip to lowly Parkgate on Saturday.

However, Billy Miller's men were given a boost in their title aspirations as second-placed Worksop Town suffered a 3-1 defeat at Clipstone.

That meant Albion retained topspot of the Northern Counties East League despite a frustrating afternoon in South Yorkshire.

The league leaders were hoping to bounce back from their disastrous FA Vase exit on Tuesday evening and came agonisingly close to the perfect start when Beadle's header bounced clear off the underside of the crossbar.

Jason Mycoe and George Conway both came close before Parkgate, who stunned Tad 4-3 at the i2i Stadium earlier in the season, went ahead against the run of play on the half hour through Jordan Turner's smart turn and finish.

Turner almost made it two for the hosts as he dinked wide before Carl Stewart had an effort cleared off the line at the other end close to half time.

Parkgate continued to frustrate Albion after the restart as Mycoe, Stewart and substitute Josh Greening all went close.

Adam Baker eventually found the net for Albion from a corner but their celebrations were short-lived as the linesman ruled that Dan Clayton's delivery had curled out of play.

Time was running out for Tad but they were given a lifeline late on with a penalty, which Beadle dispatched with ease.

However, Miller's men were unable to find a second in the final five minutes as Beadle headed another good opportunity wide of the mark.
