Paul Stansfield gave his Knaresborough Town squad “10 out of 10” marks for their application during Saturday’s dramatic win over Bottesford Town.

An 89th minute own goal handed Town the perfect start to 2016 as Boro returned to Manse Lane with a 2-1 win under their belts.

Town are now up to ninth place in Northern Counties East League Division One, but a play-off spot remains a far cry with a 13-point gap remaining to fifth-placed AFC Emley.

Knaresborough had fallen a goal behind in the 10th minute before Toby Lees equalised and substitute George Eustance's late cross forced a winner.

The victory was the perfect response from the Reds, who had been beaten 3-0 by Penistone Church in their previous encounter.

Bottesford had also hammered them 4-0 in the reverse fixture at Manse Lane earlier in the season.

“I was really proud of the boys on Saturday,” said Stansfield.

“It wasn't our best football but for sheer guts and determination it was a ten out of ten.

"They gave it absolutely everything and just didn't stop.”
