Kirkby Malzeard are improving week by week under new boss Del Chambers, according to club chairman John Pickard.

Phil Briscombe was the hero as Malzeard grabbed a late 2-1 winner against Clifford on Saturday.

Simon Pickard had earlier opened the scoring for Chambers’ men before Clifford drew level minutes after half-time.

Seventh-placed Malzeard are three matches unbeaten in the Harrogate Premier league after five games. They host Wetherby Athletic A on Saturday.

“Del’s taken over and he’s doing really well,” said Pickard. “We are going from strength to strength.

“We lost the first two games and then we turned a corner quickly. With our new players, we have 20 percent better than last year.”

Pickard pinpointed hotshot striker Alex Benson and converted goalkeeper Dan Brown as two top performers this campaign.

“Dan played centre back last season but without a regular keeper, he has been super in goal,” he added.

Ripon Red Arrows were hammered 5-1 by Bramham in Division Two. Helperby United thrashed Albert Sport Yeadon 5-2 in the League Challenge Cup at York Road.
