Weaver '˜pleased' as Town avoid FA Cup banana skin

Simon Weaver’s men took their time to break down stubborn opposition in the shape of NCEL Premier Division outfit Penistone Church, but eventually ran out comfortable winners by a 3-0 scoreline.

“You can so easily trip up playing against a team from a few leagues below and we knew it wasn’t going to be plain sailing but we got the job done in the end, which I’m pleased about,” Weaver reflected.

“We must have had 12 efforts at least at goal, but there was some good defending, we were not quite ruthless enough and a shade unlucky with a couple of attempts that hit the crossbar.

“We had to be patient, persevere and we scored three good goals in the end.”

It took until the 57th minute for Town to break the deadlock as centre-half Terry Kennedy netted his fourth goal in seven appearances, converting Jack Emmett’s pass at the back post.

Emmett then got the hosts’ second, applying the final touch to Josh Falkingham’s shot, before Ben Parker converted Ryan Fallowfield’s cross to score his first Harrogate goal and seal the win.

Next up for Town is a mouthwatering local derby clash with in-form North Yorkshire rivals York City on Saturday, 3pm kick-off at the CNG Stadium.
