Harrogate Town secured their first pre-season victory in a convincing 3-0 defeat of Championship side Blackburn Rovers at the CNG on Saturday.
Peppered with new signings, the Blue Square North side outperformed a ‘Rovers XI consisting mostly of U21 players.
Former Alftreton Town striker Ashley Worsfold set Town on the goal trail after 18 minutes.
Dan Clayton crossed the ball in, and Worsfold was able to volley home Chris Hall’s pass.
He doubled the home side’s lead in 37 minutes.
‘Rovers cranked up the pressure as the first period drew to a close, and started the second half strongly.
However, Town’s defence held firm, and ‘keeper Craig MacGillivray was rarely seriously troubled.
The 305-strong CNG faithful were treated to a strong Town midfield performance, and former Harrogate Railway star Liam Hardy passed through to Town stalwart Adam Nowakowski, whose cool finish rounded off an impressive afternoon for promotion-hopeful Town.
Of particular interest to Town manager Simon Weaver will be the fitness levels of his squad, who look ready to start the season.
Town travel to face Oxford City in their first league match on August 17.
Their pre-season schedule continues when they host Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday (kick-off 7.45pm) and travel to Northern Ireland to take on Portadown on July 27 (3pm).
Premier League Hull City visit the CNG on August 3 (3pm), before Sunderland travel to Harrogate on August 7 (7.30pm)
