League Two high-fliers Burton Albion have signed Harrogate Town’s prolific goalscorer Dominic Knowles on a free transfer.
Knowles signed for Town from Gainsborough Trinity on non-contract terms in January and his superb form brought attention from league clubs.
He has spent the last few days on trial at Albion and the move was completed before the end of the transfer deadline.
Albion are pushing for automatic promotion in League Two and they sit third, nine points off the top.
He hit the net 10 times in the 14 appearances he made for Town.
Boss Simon Weaver said the deal showed sixth-placed Town were getting noticed by league clubs.
He said: “It was always on the cards. They have been enquiring about him for a while and they wanted to have a look at him until the end of the season.
“He came here with the desire to play higher. He’s got that chance
“It is a good move for him and we are proud we have given them that platform.
Despite the striker’s move, Weaver believes he has the forwards to continue his side’s play-off push till the end of the season.
““He was an excellent player for us but we have got out of it what we wanted.
“We have gone from 12th to sixth.
“With Paul Beesley and Tom Allan coming back, and Colin Larking coming in, we have got a good squad of forwards.
“Danny Forrest was the best player on the park last week too.
“We wish Dom luck and will keep in touch with him.”
