Harrogate Town boss Simon Weaver has hailed Shane Killock and Leigh Franks as the league’s best defensive pairing.
Franks and captain Killock marshalled Town to a shut-out at AFC Telford on Saturday as Craig Nelthorpe sealed a 1-0 win.
Town have conceded just four goals in their first six games. And it is that defensive record that has moved them up to third in Skrill North.
Ten-man Telford threw bodies forward but Town’s response to their physicality pleased the boss.
Weaver said: “They were smashing it forward but the two centre halves were absolutely fantastic.
“People forget that they are 23 and 22 years old. They look like they have played top level semi-pro for years and years.
“There’s no better pairing in this league.”
Meanwhile, big summer signing Tommy Wright has left Harrogate Town to become joint manager at Southern League side Corby Town.
Wright made just three substitute appearances for Town, scoring against North Ferriby United.
Weaver said: “Tommy was a great character on and off the pitch but he’s gone to further his career.”
Town play Histon at the CNG Stadium on Saturday.
Under 18s can watch the match for £1. Town visit Stalybridge on Tuesday.
