Blue Square North’s pacesetters Chester proved too strong for Harrogate Town on Wednesday night, the visitors going down 2-0 at the Exacta Stadium.
Kick-off was delayed until 8pm as the Harrogate Town bus was delayed by traffic en route and arrived late at the ground.
But Town were good value in the first half, in front of a home crowd of 1,803.
Striker Chib Chilaka had a goal disallowed for offside after ten minutes, and Shane Killock hit the post following a rocket of a Dave Merris corner.
The sides were still locked at nil-nil by the break, but Chester turned up the heat for the second half and quickly went a goal up.
Atoni Sarcevic netted in the 58th minute via a volley from the edge of the area, before the same player forced Town right back Dwayne Samuels to turn the ball into his own net 12 minutes later.
Chester’s ninth win on the bounce puts them 12 points clear of second-placed Guiseley.
Town are 12th, with several games in hand over the teams above them.
