Harrogate Town returned to the Blue Square North play-off zone after a hard fought 2-0 victory away to lowly Bishops Stortford.
Town overtook Altrincham in fifth place thanks to goals from Danny Forrest and substitute Chib Chilaka.
Town manager Simon Weaver named just one change to the side that beat Corby Town away on Saturday.
Forrest completed his return from injury and replaced Tom Platt in midfield after the loan star was recalled by parent club York City.
And it was Forrest who made the breakthrough for Town on the stroke of half-time when he pounced on a poor back-bass to slot home.
The game broke up in the second half and Town had to wait until the 84th minute before Chilaka doubled their lead.
The goal-machine marauded forward before he smashed the ball past the Stortford ‘keeper.
Weaver said: “We have defended really well in the last two games.
“The pitch was a really good one and that lifted the standard. That is what we will have at home next year.
“Adam Bolder and Paul Bolland in the midfield gave us a good base.
“At half-time I told the players it was a six out of 10 and I thought there was a lot more in the locker in the second half.
“Chib’s goal in the second half was a fine goal. The lads jumped on him afterwards, it was a big moment.”
Town next face play-off rivals Halifax Town at the CNG Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
