Kirk Deighton Rangers boss Dan Marshall urged his side to stay focused and set up a mouth-watering Whitworth Cup semi-final for the club.

Rangers travel to Harrogate & District Division One side Hampsthwaite United on Saturday in the Whitworth Cup first round.

And a win could see the side paired up against NCEL side Knaresborough Town or West Yorkshire League pair Ripon City and Boroughbridge in the semis.

“That has to be the aim,” said Marshall.

“This competition allows you to play against teams that aren’t your bread and butter. Over the years we have always had a good record against higher teams.

“But we won’t be taking Hampsthwaite lightly.

“We have to make sure we don’t just show up and expect to win.”

Rangers must wait three weeks before their next Harrogate & District Premier match, and Killinghall Nomads cancelled Saturday’s clash after they folded.

Marshall welcomed the weekend break as a chance to scout rivals Rawdon and Beckwithshaw.

“It gave us a chance to get a couple of lads back available too,” he added.

KDR’s reserves thumped Dalton 8-2 on Saturday.

Jonathan Wilson dropped down into the second string and blasted a hat-trick.

Danny Gore (3), James Trottman and Colin McDonald were also on the scoresheet.
