Harrogate Town’s woes continued with a 2-0 defeat at struggling Gainsborough Trinity.

Simon Weaver’s men lost for the fifth straight game as Trinity scored two first-half goals to earn the victory.

Bradley Barraclough gave Gainsborough the lead after 26 minutes before Simon Russell scored a penalty 10 minutes later.

Michael Woods and the booked Craig Nelthorpe were both taken off at half-time by Weaver but Ashley Worsfold and Adam Nowakowski’s introduction failed to inspire a second half turnaround.

Meanwhile, Harrogate Railway exited the FA Trophy at the first hurdle as hosts Wakefield beat them 2-1.

Wakefield led 1-0 into the break before David Boardman doubled the tally.

Nathan Cartman scored his third goal in a week but the strike came too late for Railway to mount a comeback.

Carl Stewart scored for a third successive game as Tadcaster Albion drew 1-1 at second-placed Retford United in their NCEL top of the table clash.

The point dropped Paul Marshall adversity-defying squad into second after rivals Thackley beat Glasshoughton 3-0.

Knaresborough Town were unable to continue their impressive form from Tuesday night’s win at Pontefract Collieries, as Brian Davey’s men lost 1-0 at Selby Town.

Bardsey started their West Riding FA County Cup campaign in imperious style as they smashed seven past Otley Rovers, winning 7-1.

Wetherby Athletic also progressed to the second round beating Hunsworth 3-1.

Ripon City thrashed basement side Kippax 5-1 in the West Yorkshire League thanks to braces from Adam Robinson and Joe Knowlson.

But rivals Boroughbridge fell down 3-1 at league newcomers Hunslet Club
