Harrogate Town missed a host of chances as they played out a goalless stalemate against Tamworth on the opening day of the season.
New signing James Walshaw and Ryan Kendall were both unfortunate not to have given Town a first half lead, as opposition keeper James Belshaw kept them at bay.
Walshaw then had a strike cleared off the line in the second half before Town had two penalty appeals turned down.
Louis Swain almost stole the victory late on but his chip went narrowly over.
Simon Weaver’s side travel to West Yorkshire rivals Bradford Park Avenue on Monday night.
The match will pit Town right-back Lewis Turner against his twin brother Nathan.
Meanwhile, Tadcaster Albion’s season began with a 2-1 defeat at home to moneybags Shaw Lane Aquaforce.
Albion fell behind to George Conway’s sixth-minute strike before Carl Stewart restored parity shortly after the break.
However, the Brewers’ top goalscorer from last year then suffered a repeat of the knee injury that troubled him last season.
And with him off the field, Shaw Lane’s Daniel Patterson scored the winner with 20 minutes to go.
Graham Whitehead and Seb Carole were on the scoresheet as Knaresborough Town started with maximum points at home to Hallam in Division One.
Whitehead gave Borough the lead before Grant Allott’s spotkick levelled matters.
But former Leeds United star Carole grabbed the win for Boro in the 67th minute.
