Harrogate Town damaged their play-off hopes as they slipped to a late 1-0 defeat against Bradford Park Avenue.

The defeat leaves Town in sixth place in the Blue Square Bet North, three points outside of the play-off zone with a game in hand on Altrincham.

Park Avenue climbed up to seventh and sit three points below Town on the same number of games.

Town boss Simon Weaver made three changes to the side that played out a goalless draw with Gainsborough Trinity on Monday.

Striker Paul Beesley made his first start on his return from injury and Chib Chilaka and Alan White both returned to the starting line-up.

The changes seemed to have worked as Weaver’s side dominated the first half but failed to break through the Park Avenue defence.

It looked for a while like Town would end with their second 0-0 draw of the season, two days after their first.

But the game turned on the 80th minute when Dwayne Samuels received a controversial second yellow for handball, five minutes after his first.

Avenue took advantage of the extra man at the death as Holland pounced on a low cross for a simple finish.

Blue Square announced on Wednesday that their six-year sponsorship of the Conference, Conference North and Conference South will stop at the end of the season.

The betting company were taken over by Betfair earlier this week.
