Collingham U-13s are celebrating after winning the Leeds FA Millennium Cup final at Elland Road.
They beat Pannal Ash 3-0, with first half goals from Billy Eastwood and two from Casey Taglione.
It was a great week for Collingham, who also secured the Garforth League Division One title a few days before, in their final league game of the season.
The Collingham manager, Phil Smith, said “It was an unbelievable experience for all the players, the coaching staff and the parents.
“As soon as we arrived at Elland Road, the players were treated like professionals, enjoying an initial walk round the pitch, before changing and then undertaking a warm-up on the famous turf”.
“A few of the players and myself were asked to do some pre-game interviews for the DVD to be produced of the game, which felt like being on Match of the Day.”
Leeds United first team players, Aidy White and Sam Byram, then kindly talked to all the players in the dressing room before we went out, passing on their advice”.
“Initially stepping onto the pitch with the roar of the biggest crowd we have ever had was a great feeling and we are grateful to everyone who came down to support us. The game itself was fantastic, with Collingham playing some great passing football to take a well deserved 3-0 win on the night.
“I am sure the players will remember the game and then walking up the steps to receive their medals and the cup for a long time to come,” Smith continued.
“A big thank you should also go to Pannal Ash for being such great opponents and helping make it such a memorable occasion.”
“The players have worked really hard this season and to win both the league and the Millennium Cup is a credit to their commitment and the fantastic support from all our parents”
