Boss Lee Barraclough says Bardsey’s ill-discipline problem must stop.

The gaffer had set his sights on a landmark West Riding County Cup triumph this season.

But his side exited the competition in the second round on Saturday after a “freak” extra-time goal gave Ripon City a 3-2 win at Mallorie Park.

Player unavailability rocked the squad prior to the clash with 10 players missing from the week before.

Rob Dickinson, Jamie Thompson, Wayne Hudson and Steve Palfrey were all suspended and the boss bemoaned previous misdemeanours for costing the champions.

He said: “At 10 o’clock on Friday night, I had 10 players for Saturday

“We shouldn’t be in that position. As a manager your hands are tied.

“You can’t have your best players sat in the stands.

“It’s cost us the County Cup run this year.

“If it doesn’t stop, it could cost us even more.”

The gaffer also questioned the footballing culture of developing players.

He added: “For the last four years I haven’t played the same team back to back. How can you do that?

“That tells you a story about football in general.

“I have had one day off in the last six years.

“I have the passion still burning but I look into the eyes of young players and I don’t see it.

“That’s the things that suggests football is finished.”

Jason Davies and second teamer Ronan Kerr turned around a 2-0 deficit before City scored from a shot-come-cross in the first half of extra-time.

“The lads that played gave everything and we took a lot of heart from that,” Barraclough added.

“The only positive we can take is that we can get our head down in the league while the others are in the cup.

“With a bit of luck we can get our heads down and hopefully win the league.

“To retain the league is a hard thing to do. Four out of five years would be another record.”

Thompson, Hudson, Palfrey and Matty Dalton (injury) should return for Saturday’s league cup clash at West Yorkshire Premier whipping boys Kippax.

But goal machine Dickinson remains suspended after his red card for dissent last month.

Barraclough added: “Rob is the best centre forward in this league and three leagues up. But his main flaw is the stupid stuff in his character.

“He needs to get himself fit and get his head down.

“With the talent he has got, it is a waste.”

Bardsey hammered Kippax 7-0 in the league earlier this season and the Leeds-side have picked up only four points this season.

“We have to bounce back,” added Barraclough.
