Harrogate’s St George’s Archery Club enjoyed a very successful day at Archers of East Riding’s Open Clout Championships held last weekend on the club’s ground at Hutton Cranswick near Driffield.

Carol Fairbrother, having won the Yorkshire Championships last month, continued her good form retaining the lady barebow title.

Shooting at the 140 yard flag her score of 188 points was the highest in the UK so far this year. Moira Salmons shot exceptionally well using a new, untried bow to claim the bronze medal.

Despite only receiving her new bow two days before the shoot and using an unmatched set of arrows, she improved throughout the competition and only narrowly missed out on second place. In the very competitive gent’s 180 yard longbow category Steve Lilley scored well to claim a very creditable fifth place.
