Members of St George’s Archery Club, Harrogate enjoyed two successful two days of shooting at last weekend’s clout event hosted by the Archers of East Riding in Hutton Cranswick near Driffield.
On Saturday GNAS imperial rounds were shot and Carol Fairbrother, the current British champion and record holder, extended her 18 month unbeaten run by winning the lady barebow championship.
Shooting at 140 yards she won by a clear margin of 20 points.
Junior Tom Ketley shot superbly in the very difficult, blustery conditions to improve his own club records for both the single and double 80 yard clout. Still in his first year of shooting, he improved the single record from 34 to 45 and the double from 64 to 92.
He also claimed a black tassel award was awarded the silver medal in the junior under 12 barebow class.
On Sunday metric FITA rounds were shot and Tom again smashed both of the existing club records, took the silver medal and, with a score of 250 for the double 75m round, achieved a red tassel award.
His mum, Hazel Ketley, was also amongst the medals. Shooting in the 125m lady barebow category in her first FITA clout her score of 141 won her the bronze medal and a white tassel award.
Meanwhile, in the gents barebow competition, Mike Salt claimed the fifth new club record of the weekend improving the single clout score, which he set at the same shoot last year, by a point.
