Divers pull out the stops

HARROGATE & District Diving Club recently flew out to Dublin to take part in the Irish Open National Diving Championships.

Eleven divers with various experience brought back a grand total of 14 medals, 7 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze.

It was a fascinating Girls A competition with three Harrogate divers taking part in the three events.

A great performance from Jasmine Feingold who came 1st in each of her events. Close behind was Kirsty Beighton who was 2nd in all three competitions and Hannah Hickingbotham coming third in the three metre and fourth in the one metre event.

Nathan Pickard, who is part of the Great Britain talent program, also had a successful Championship with a first on the platform and two 2nd places in the one & three metre Boys B events.

Eden Brown came a respectful 5th in the 3 metre & 6th in the 1 metre Girls group E/D events.

This year six novice divers took part in the event.

It was the first competition for some of the divers and a really good experience for the youngsters to travel to a different country and compete against some strong opposition.

Douglas Spalding came 1st in the Boys C Novice competition and Ffion Gregory 3rd in Girls E Novice event. The Boys D Novice event was a tough competition with three Harrogate divers taking part. Tom Gugan came 4th with Elliot Eccles close behind in 5th and a good 7th place for Oliver Mitchelson.

The last two medals went to Paul Gill in the Masters Novice Men’s 1 & 3 metre competitions where he came 1st in both events.
