Pateley Bridge Showground will be taken over by hundreds of cycling fans when the Tour de France hits the region this July.

Businessman Andy Milner has arranged for up to 300 spaces to be available for visitors from July 3-7 at the showground.

Pop Up Camping at Pateley has been organised by Mr Milner and other cycling enthusiasts from across Nidderdale.

A statement from organisers read: “Popuppateley camping is perfectly positioned right at the heart of the Yorkshire stages of the Tour de France 2014.

“There really is no better place to experience and enjoy this once in a lifetime sporting spectacular.

“We’ll be hosting a memorable 4-day cycling celebration. Everything has been organised by bike enthusiasts from Nidderdale to provide both ardent fans and newcomers with the perfect long weekend of race fever.”

Organisers hope to make Pateley Bridge a Tour spectator hub, complete with big screen for spectators to enjoy the action.

A large-scale community event is being planned, subject to approval by Harrogate Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council.
