A new exhibition revealing the Harrogate district’s passion for cycling will tour next month.

The exhibition, On Your Bike is an oral history based touring exhibition to explore and celebrate the history of cycling across the district.

Harrogate has a long connection with cycling, with the Bicycle Touring Club, now the Cyclists’ Touring Club, having been formed in Harrogate in 1878.

Highlights of the new exhibition include the Listening Station, a quirky exhibit set in the basket on a bike, where visitors will be able to hear fascinating extracts of interviews recorded with local cyclists from the 1940s up to the present day.

Visitors will also be able to listen to stories of cycling day trips to Knaresborough in the 1940s, discover some of the best cycle routes in our area, learn about how some of the local cycling clubs were formed and hear stories Yorkshire’s famous champion cyclists, Beryl Burton and Denise Burton-Cole’s internationally competitive careers.

The exhibition will be on show at Ripon Workhouse Museum until April 21, before reaching Masham Town Hall from April 23 - May 5, Knaresborough Library between May 7 and June 2, Fewston Church from June 4-16 and the ROyal Pump Room Museum in Harrogate from June 18 to July 13.
