Boneshakers’ Steve Smales, Nova’s Duncan Mullier and Tony Kent and YRC’s Mike Shacklock all competed in the National 25 mile TT championships on Teesside.
Freak weather plagued the day with thunderstorms, flash flooding and strong winds.
The 150-strong men’s field involved a titanic battle between Sky Pro Cycling’s Olympic hopeful Alex Dowsett, wearing the national champion’s jersey, and multiple record holder and dominant force on the national TT scene Michael Hutchinson.
And it was Hutchinson who scored a narrow victory of five seconds with an astonishing course record of 47:07 .
He was one of only four people to crack the 30mph average barrier.
Top local finisher was Smales in 41st, ninth in age category, with 53:02.
Mullier found some form to smash his course PB with 55:19 in 77th, 16th in age category.
Plaudits of the day went to Tony Kent and Mike Shacklock who both won their age categories with 57:14 (60-65) and 57:54 (65-70) and are now National Champions as a result.
Event seven of the Fulford cycles TT league, the Hilly 19, was cancelled due to bad weather last week.
