Forty-five Theakston Nidderdale League fixtures were cancelled after Friday’s torrential downpour and most of the remainder abandoned.

The league permitted an earlier than usual cancellation policy so teams weren’t forced to make fruitless journeys across the district.

However, some sides miraculously managed to complete their games.

In Division Five, Alne 2nds toasted a two-wicket win over Pateley Bridge. Gareth Foxton hit 28 against the bowling of John Henley (4-8) and Tony Raper (3-35) as Pateley achieved 102-8.

But Ollie Jones’ 41 pushed Alne over the victory line at 102-8, Tom Fryer collecting 3-45.

A mammoth knock of 131 by Gareth Sharples steered Marton cum Grafton to a win over Ouseburn 3rds in Division Seven. Steve Buckle chipping in with 36 as Marton posted 217-5. Ouseburn were bowled out for 163 despite the efforts of Neil Newlove (51), Steve Moss collecting 4-37.

Little Ribston 2nds were in seventh heaven against Studley Royal 4ths in Division Nine. Sean Lawson bagging a terrific haul of 7-19 to peg the Royals back to 129. J Crewe topscored with 51 for Studley.

Ribston batting first had made 139-8, Lawson at the fore again with a knock of 25.

Thirsk 3rds were also in winning form against Ripley 3RDS.

Jake Porter (3-7) and Ian Pope (4-22) skittled Ripley for 58, before cruising home at 59-2 through Paul Howes (28).
