Trophy time for Nidderdale League

A total of 300 guests and friends enjoyed the Theakston Nidderdale Presentation Evening at its new home of The Pavilions, Harrogate.

The guest of honour was Sky Sports pundit and former Kent cricketer, David Fulton, who also presented the trophies and awards before the evening was rounded off by comedian Gary Marshall.

Among the prizewinners was the Theakston Player of the Year, Bobby Hilton of Wath and Melmerby.

Hilton also took the Erik Thompson Trophy for Most Runs in a Season, thanks to his total of more than 1,100.

The Wilf Wigglesworth Trophy for Most Wickets in a Season was won by Simon Taylor of Boroughbridge and Staveley with 49 scalps.

Dacre Banks’ Chris Eckford took 33 dismissals behind the stumps to earn the Eric and Alex Houseman Trophy.

The Theakston Hospitality award went to North Stainley.

A warm welcome was also extended to representatives of Upper Wharfedale Cricket Club who have chosen to join the League for the 2017 season.

A raffle held on the night was well supported with all proceeds going to Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Honorary league secretary Graham Hyde said: “The food and service was exceptional, making it a thoroughly enjoyable evening spent with friends old and new.

The league’s planning for the 2017 season is already underway, and their AGM is to be held on Monday November 28.
