Tadcaster Magnet slipped off the top of York Senior League Division Two after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of Clifton Alliance 2nds.

Magnet were outplayed at Clifton Alliance as the home side chased down a 182 target with four wickets spare.

Magnet’s openers Michael Scott (24) and Rory Coe (25) started positively before Smith (41), Paul Clark (27) and Sam Lendhill (26) scrapped them to 181-7.

Seamers Nadeem Shefta and Clark both took two wickets as Tad tried to put the squeeze on the opponents but 42 not out from Matt Phillips saw the home side through.

Struggling TABS continued their poor start to the season as Malton compounded them to their fifth defeat in six.

TABS skipper Guy Whatmore produced an inspired knock of 91 from 100 balls to rescue his side from 30-3.

But support was found lacking and no other player passed 20 in his side’s innings of 162-7.

Malton made short work of the chase as Stephen Linsley trumped Whatmore’s knock with 93 not out to win by seven wickets.

Next, TABS travel to Welton & Brough. Magnet host Londesborough Park.
