Beware the underdog.
That will be the message of Beckwithshaw captain Ben Quick on Saturday when in form Ben Rhydding roll into town.
Victories over Bilton and Steeton, in the semi-final of the Waddilove Cup on Saturday, last weekend means they travel full of confidence.
“They are on a bit of a roll,” said Quick.
“We’ve got to be aware of them, and with this weather about it’s definitely a leveller.”
After a string of called-off or rain affected games, ‘Shaw finally got back on the pitch and registered a six-point victory over defending champions Thackley on Saturday.
After winning the toss and batting first, Aussie Bryan Vance made an excellent 83 and John Inglis 57 as the away side posted 206-5. In reply Stu Hudson was the pick of the bowlers with 5-27 as Thackley were all out for 115.
‘Shaw are now eight points behind leaders Collingham in the table. they sit third, six points behind Steeton. Follifoot are back in fourth after their win over bottom club Adel last weekend.
Greg Lambert’s men welcome Steeton on Saturday. Mark Richards took 5-30 as Adel were all out for 137 last weekend.
Nick Robinson (43) top scored in reply as they came through by four wickets.
Bilton are joint second bottom after last Saturday’s thrashing at Ben Rhydding.
They have a fearsome task on their plate on Saturday when league leading Collingham visit Bilton Lane.
Last week things looked good for Bilton when they Richard Spittlehouse (4-35) ripped through Rhydding’s upper order.
However, they rallied to make 190. Bilton were skittled for just 76 in reply.
