Ouseburn edge closer to double after Darley win and cup final glory

Ouseburn sealed silverware on Sunday, beating Spofforth in the Atkinson Swires cup final at Newby Hall (see page 94).

But on Saturday, they edged closer to the league title after a win over Darley to stay top of the pile in the Nidderdale League first division.

Chris Gill (40) topscored to take Darley to 125-7 batting first, but Jamie Bryant (52no) powered Ouseburn over the line at 127-5, despite Gill collecting 3-33.

Title rivals Helperby were felled by fellow challengers Spofforth, posting 218 through Joe Corner (67) and Lane Tutty (64) against the bowling of Tom Clark (4-410 and Simon Old (4-40).

Pat Gannon (65) and James Roberts (51) steered Spofforth to victory at 219-8, Dan Marston collecting 4-44.

Blubberhouses got back to winning ways against Dacre Banks, racking up 236-9 via Sajid Khan (74), Steve Wilkinson (44) and John Wilkinson (36).

AJ Clark bagged 5-48 but despite sturdy efforts from Asif Ayub (79), Steve Lawrence (33) and Waqas Rasheed (45) Dacre were limited to 225-7 in reply.

Alne overcame Goldsborough, who racked up 200 courtesy of David James (45) while James Belli captured 4-28.

Pete Carr (60) and Rob Proudley (560 led Alne to 201-4 in reply.

Hampsthwaite were too strong for Masham, amassing 180-8 with Andrew Boyel (44) topscoring. Derek Chapman took 3-30 and Roger Smart 3-25.

In reply Masham were dismissed for 88 with A Durie taking 5-34 and R Jamieson 4-12.

Killinghall sent Bishop Thorton to a 48 run defeat, racking up a hefty 248-5 after decent knocks from A Crawfurd-Porter (69), M Williams (87) and J Cutts (31).

Josh Chandler responded with 68 and Will Wray 32, but chief destroyers Nick Richarson (5-47) and Cutts (3-45) had Thornton finished at 200-9.

In Division Two, Pannal’s steam train hit the buffers with a defeat by promotion-hunting Birstwith.

Carl Wilson (59) led Pannal to 220-8 but Craig Armitage (84) steered Birstwith to 222-8 in reply, despite Wilson’s haul of 5-48.

Burton Leonard put Ripley to the sword by six wickets.

J Waldron smashed a terrific 110 and Keith Bollon 39 not out for Ripley to achieve 229-5, but J Towsend (75), M Wray (67) and Matthew Rangeley (31no) fired Burton clear at 230-4.

Galphay and Winskley lost out to Sharow, Trent Grabham hitting 64 to take Galphay to 186.

Sharow pulled clear at 187-6 after Connor Ryan hit 74.

Pateley Bridge were in awesome form against Bolton Abbey, accruing 315-7 after tremendous batting by Mike Eglin (107), Tom Simpson (92) and Chris Langley (81).

Phil Midgley cracked 119 in reply, but Bolton finished at 276 after John Thompson took 4-66 and Colin Chadwick 4-59.

Knaresborough Forest overcame West Tanfield, who reached 186-7 through Boddie Arthur (37), Steve Ryan (42) and Andrew Ganderton (30).

Stewart Pyke plundered 5-41, before Knaresborough reached 187-4 in reply, David Skaith (84) and Nick Jones (50) the best batsmen.

Newby Hall amassed 177 against Studley Royal, who managed 115-9 in reply.
