Pupils at Saint John Fisher Catholic School in Harrogate have continued to excel in sporting disciplines.
The U-14s cricket team won the North Yorkshire Cricket competition, played at Malton County Cricket Club.
SJF had to overcome strong competition from Lady Lumley’s, Bedale and Easingwold. Norton School were the team facing SJF in the 20-over final.
Batting first, SJF made 135-2 with George Gibson scoring an impressive 30 not out, in support of Luke Kilby, who had to retire at 50 not out.
Norton were slightly behind the scoring rate at the ten over mark, but hit back to look likely winners after fifteen overs.
The turning point came when Kilby took a magnificent catch on the boundary. Spinner Gibson followed this up with two quick wickets to increase the pressure on the opposition.
Tight fielding produced two run-outs, meaning Norton’s total fell short at 118, leaving Saint John Fishers to collect the North Yorkshire Cricket Competition trophy.
Sports teacher Mike Knowles said: ”It is another great success for the U-14s cricket team, following on from the success of last season.
“They are in keeping with the tradition of Saint John Fisher teams achieving extremely high standards at local, district and national level.”
