Harrogate CC’s promising start to the defence of their ECB Yorkshire Premier League North crown continued as they beat Yorkshire Academy by two wickets.

Kallen Bond starred with the ball as George Ross’ side restricted their visitors to 220/9.

The Australian returned fine figures of 4-17, while Tom Geeson-Brown bagged 2-15 and Harry Stow 2-52, Nathan Snookes hitting 72 for the Academy.

In reply, the Harrogate top order failed to fire for the second successive match, and only opener Jonny Tattersall made any real impression with a score of 34.

At 73-5, things were looking bleak for the men from St George’s Road, but the tail wagged and Geeson-Brown completed a great all-round performance, striking seven fours in a match-winning knock of 51 not out.

Wicketkeeper Eddie Wilson provided useful support with an innings of 29 and number 10 Stow contributed 30 not out as the hosts made it to 221/8 in 46.1 overs.

Their eight-point haul leaves Harrogate third in the league standings, just four points shy of early pace-setters York.
