WILLIAM Fox-Pitt demonstrated the class that Britain’s medal hopes will be resting on this summer, as he swept to a sixth Bramham Horse Trials CCI*** title on Sunday.

A superb show-jumping round handed him the senior crown on new ride Chilli Morning.

The Olympian had already pocketed the CIC*** earlier in the day, Fox-Pitt delivering a superb cross country round on Neuf des Coeurs.

Elsewhere in the CCI, it was a Great Britain 1-2-3, as Pippa Funnell finished second on Mirage D’Elle, and Izzy Taylor third on Briarlands Matilda.

Back in the CIC, Zara Phillips boosted her Olympic selection hopes with a third place on High Kingdom, finishing just behind Kiwi Andrew Nicholson on Nereo.

Northallerton’s Nicola Wilson achieved 12th on Opposition Buzz, but was forced to retire on her second ride, Applejack II.

Britain’s Laura Collett and Rayef were fifth, but Collett finished second on Noble Bestman behind France’s Astier Nicolas in the Bishop Burton College CCI*** U-25s competition.

Boroughbridge’s James Somerville and Freddie Too claimed eighth place.
