Ripon Runner endures hectic race week

Ripon Runner Lena Conlin embarked on a brutal schedule after completing the Outlaw triathlon last Sunday.

She competed in the Ripon Runners Club Race on Tuesday, the League Handicap on Wednesday, Ripon Triathlon on Saturday and then the Burton Leonard 10k on Sunday.

That totalled 3.4 miles of swimming, 140 miles of biking and 50 miles of running in eight days.

Ripon Runners supported the Burton Leonard 10k run by entering 33 runners out of the 200 entrants.

Michael Appleton was first home for the Runners but failed to defend his crown as he finished fifth in 36mins 51 second. Derek McCreadie (39.24) and Alex Fawcett (39.46) also put in strong performances to claim the men’s team prize alongside Appleton.

Tori Green was impressive again as the first club lady back in 45.16.

The Ripon Triathlon took place on Saturday 13 at Ripon Racecourse over the Olympic distance.

Billy Conlin was the first Ripon raider home in two hours 48 minutes.

First time triathlete Jill Holt finished in 3.30. Other Ripon Runners were Dennis Connor (3:02), Peter Brodie (3:05), Martin Cunningham (3:07), Emma Oates (3:07) and Caroline Bentham (3:15), Lena Conlin (3:19) and John Bull (3:39.

Alex Fawcett led a trio of Ripon Runners at the Kilburn seven mile road race on July 7 finishing in 46 minutes 35 seconds.

Anthony Jefford (48:27) and Graham Haycock (60:46) also took part.

Ripon entered 20 runners at the final 2013 Harrogate District Summer Race League in Thirsk.

Jackie Turner was first home for the club in 29th overall in 51.03. The next four Ripon Runners were also all ladies with Kirsty May (47.34), Mel Dutka (53.41), Donna Riddler (39.15) and Kim Holden (47.54) showing impressive form.
