Harrogate Harriers’ junior athletes were busy at the Harrogate and Craven cross-country trials held at Giggleswick last weekend.
In the Senior Girls, Ruth Jones finished second, Ciara Martin third and Molly Webster fourth so all qualified for the next round.
A brave run from Alistair Wallace to finish 12th in the senior boys saw him through despite a knee injury.
In the Inter girls, the leading trio of Lauren Woodhall, Claire Jones and Millie Gray took a wrong turn half way through the race and ran an extra 400m.
The race was won by Millie Howard with Millie Gray running through to second, Lucy Ireland sixth, Claire Jones eighth and Lauren Woodhall 10th, all going through.
In the Inter boys, George Mills finished first, Louis Maurice second, Ed Burgess third, Ed Beecher sixth, Mark Taylor seventh all qualified.
In the year nine girls, Samantha Baker Jones, Rebecca Wood (3rd), Matilda Everitt (8th) and Maya Mellor (9th) all qualified for the next round.
Meantime in the year nine boys, Peter Bowles (3rd), James Whitely (4th) and Jack Brennan (5th) all qualified in the year 9 boys.
Saskia Bottomley qualified fifth in the year 8 girls with Seb Christie seventh going through in the year 8 boys
In the year 7s Iona White (8th), and Emily Conn (10th) both went through, whilst Ben Brennan (4th), Freddie Dunsmore (7th) and Gabe Rhodes (10th) all qualified to complete a successful day.
Some of the Harriers’ newest members made strong debuts at the third round of the West Yorkshire Cross Country race series in Leeds.
Robert Charlesworth (13th) led the way in the U-11s boys race, backed up by Patrick Tolan and Ciaran Eley, to help them place eighth team.
Freya Sugarman was also 13th in the U-11 girls race and closely followed by Charlotte Parris.
There was a strong turnout in the U-13s races with Saskia Bottomley (12th) and Grace Glover (33rd) leading the girls team to ninth place, whilst Elliot Brewins, joined Louis Zoing and Oliver Earl helped the boys to ninth place as well.
A strong performance from the U15 boys team earned them a second place, a gutsy run from Owen Martin (24th) helping to secure the team placing after excellent performances from race winner George Millsand Ed Burgess (5th).
The U-17s Ladies capped a great day winning their race with Claire Jones (6th), Lucy Ireland (13th) and Alex Tetley (18th) all playing their part.
The junior atheletes now look forward to the final race of the series and also competing in the PECO XC League.
