Ripon Runner Dave Jelley headed to Carlisle amid gale force winds and torrential rain to compete in the first edition of The Wall Ultra run.
The 70 mile race followed the route of Hadrian’s Wall before dropping down for a few welcome flat miles along the river Tyne into the centre of Newcastle.
At times runners were knee deep in flowing water from the swollen becks along the course. At others there was good downhill road running with the advantage of a strong wind behind
Views were magnificent and the final mile along the waterfront and across ‘the winking eye bridge’ to the Baltic was a moment to cherish. Dave came eighth in a truly incredible 11 hours and 48 minutes.
The rain held off for the 3 Otley 10 mile road race. The race takes in two hills one of those having an incline of 16 per cent.
There were three Ripon Runners, first home was Vicky Clayton 1:33:39 followed by Lena Conlin 1:37:48 and Annette Stainthorpe 1:37:53.
Richard Watson was first home for Ripon in seventh position at the latest evening league race in a time of 36.37.
