TADCASTER Albion have set their stall out for a massive 2012, their ultimate goal: promotion.
Paul Marshall’s troops wrapped up 2011 in fine style, beating Hall Road Rangers 4-0 on Boxing Day to stay second in the NCEL Premier.
Their league position puts them in a terrific place to push on for the second half of the season, which they embark upon on Monday, January 2 away at Nostell Miners Welfare (12noon kick-off).
“We’ve the chance to make it six points over the festive period, and after that, our home form will be key for the rest of the season,” said Marshall.
“We’ve got 11 home games left and seven away, as we’ve already played 19 away.
“It puts us in a great position for the second half of the season and if we carry on the way we have, we really should be going on and winning the league.”
When Albion met Nostell last time around, they wrapped up a comprehensive 6-1 result.
Nostell are currently in the lower reaches of the table, sitting 13th after a poor start.
However, Taddy’s chief isn’t convinced Monday’s clash will be quite as straightforward as the previous meeting between the sides suggests.
“Nostell will be a tricky game,” he said.
“We beat them 6-1 at home but it wasn’t quite as straightforward as the score suggests.
“They were vey lively and quick upfront, so we’ll need to be a bit wary.”
After Monday, comes the big one a week on Saturday.
Albion host current leaders Retford United in a contest which could go some way to determining where the NCEL Premier title goes in April.
On Saturday, Albion were in stunning form against struggling Hall Road Rangers, slamming in four goals without reply to underline their status as genuine title contenders.
Carl Stewart got Albion rocking when he scored the first after just three minutes.
Steve Jeff made it 2-0 in the 45th minute.
Taddy continued the second half in impressive style.
Stewart secured his brace with a strike in the 56th minute, before George Bissett rounded off a terrific afternoon with a 90th minute goal as the seconds ticked down.
In other news, midfielder Rob Youhill has been signed by Harrogate Town.
