Harrogate Tri Club is under starter’s orders!
This week the Brownlee borthers from Leeds stormed to a stunning Olympic gold and bronze in London, and now opportunities for local triathletes to train will receive a big boost as a dedicated new club is set to launch in Harrogate on September 5.
Triathlon, which combines swimming, cycling and running, is attracting increasing interest as media coverage of this thrilling sport grows and more and more people are inspired to take it up.
Local triathletes are now launching a new club dedicated to the needs of local enthusiasts of the sport.
The Harrogate Tri Club will be the newest club in Yorkshire, home of triathlon superstars Alistair and Jonny Brownlee.
Triathlon England Regional Programme Manager, Michelle Scott, comments:
“Triathlon was once thought to be the arena for the super fit. That’s no longer the case.
“There are literally hundreds of triathlons taking place throughout the country during the season catering for all abilities from absolute beginners to elite athletes over a variety of distances.
“The new club will be there to give the people of the Harrogate the opportunity to be part of the triathlon community.”
The club’s initial plan is to hold weekly coached swimming sessions based at Harrogate High School and then as interest grows; gradually introduce weekly cycling and running sessions to the programme.
The club is open to anyone over the age of 16 regardless of ability.
The club will host its official launch event at Harrogate Hockey Club on Wednesday September 5 at 7pm.
There will be a club presentation, displays of training equipment and information about the club training sessions.
Those interested in attending the launch night or wanting more information regarding membership can email the club firstname.lastname@example.org or contact the club via twitter @HgateTriClub.
