I watched the Tour de Yorkshire women’s race - Tadcaster to Harrogate stage - before going into town to see the finish. I am in awe of the quality of the cycling and also of the road surfaces.

The Cote de Lofthouse has obviously been completely resurfaced in sections and where there were potholes they have been repaired in long strips. Contrast this with the numerous poor quality individual repairs done about town which only seem to last a few months.

From the beginning of April motorsports have been given the go ahead to race on public roads for the first time, from small local events to formula one. This has been strongly supported by our local MP Andrew Jones, Transport Minister. Perhaps Harrogate could put in a bid to stage an event with a circuit possibly including Otley Road, Cornwall Road and Station Parade. We can only dream!
