Letter: These charges will encourage fly tipping

I have to take issue with government and council policy regarding charging residents to dispose of certain items at the waste recycling centres.

I recently took a very small box of broken tiles to Pennypot recycling centre, and was told it would cost me the best part of £5 to deposit them.

Fly tipping is rife all over the country and costs local councils thousands of pounds to clear up.

If the charges at the recycling centres were removed (for both domestic and commercial waste) there would be no need for people to fly tip.

The money currently used to clear up fly tipping would I suspect, easily cover the cost of removing the charges, leaving the councils, the public and the environment much better off.
