A young Harrogate man has suffered serious injuries after a major crash in Knaresborough.

The 25-year-old, driving a blue Peugeot 207, crashed on Harrogate Road outside Mother Shipton’s Cave at 3.10am on Saturday morning.

Police say he suffered a serious, but not life-threatening, leg injury and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary for treatment.

Officers are now appealing for information and, clarifying comments made on social media sites over the weekend, say he is in a serious condition - but thankfully survived the crash.

“I am aware that there has been some speculation on social media stating that this is a fatal collision,” said TS Julian Pearson, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group.

“I can confirm that although the man did suffer a serious injury, he has not died.

“If you witnessed the incident, or saw the car just prior to it, I ask that you come forward and contact the police straight away.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101, asking for TS Pearson, or emailing julian.pearson@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk quoting reference number 12140143345.
