Woodlands Methodist Church: is still open for business while the builders are in working on the toilets, please don’t let the sight of builders’ trucks and orange netting put you off! All activities and facilities are operating normally.
Road works: have descended on the Woodlands area once again to the frustration of local residents. With Hookstone Drive operating on One Way only people have to make longer trips to circumnavigate this area which is leading to traffic queues on other roads. The work on Knaresborough Road from the Empress roundabout is adding to the problem also. The work on Hookstone Drive should be finished over the next week, fingers crossed!
The Ladies Circle of Woodlands Methodist Church: will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, October 24 at 8pm. Find out more about the work of the Chaplain at Berwick Grange on Wetherby Road as Mrs S Langley speaks on What did I Let Myself in For? All ladies welcome to this friendly group.
Age UK: who run Walking Well leisure walks locally are running a walk leaders course on Wednesday, October 24. If you are interested in volunteering as a walk leader and would like to attend the course please contact Sarah At Age UK on 01423 530628. Full training and support is assured.
Messy Church: has its next session in the Middle hall at Woodlands Methodist Church on Wednesday, October 24 straight after school. The theme is The Light of the World. Aimed at Primary School aged children Messy Church teaches children stories from the Bible in a fun way through stories, craft, games and song. A drink and snack are also provided. There is no need to book your child in but a parent or carer must stay during the session which runs until 4.30pm. Younger children are welcome to come and play and a hot drink is provided for the adults.
Having a clear out?: The Ladies Circle of Woodlands Methodist Church will be happy to take your saleable jumble for their next Jumble Sale on Wednesday, October 31 at 1.30pm in the church hall. Your contributions can be left into the hall the night before the sale, Tuesday, October 30, between 7pm -8.30pm. If you need your jumble collecting please phone Joan on 01423 884053. The proceeds from this sale will go to church funds.
Harrogate St Andrew Players: invite you to their next production at Harrogate Theatre. She Loves You! Yeah! is a new musical set in the 1960s with many classic songs you will recognise from the period. The musical will run from Thursday, October 25 to Saturday, October 27 and tickets priced from £13 can be booked by contacting the box office on 01423 502116.
Local singer and musician Mike Starkings: will be in concert at Woodlands Methodist Church with Lisa Mallaghan on Saturday, November 17 at 7.30pm. This fund raising concert in aid of the church’s Project and Development Fund will feature many familiar songs and all are welcome to come along. TOAST: the drop in for parents and carers on the school run will reopen at Woodlands Methodist Church on Friday (tomorrow) from 8.45-10am. Why not call in once you have dropped the children off at school or nursery for tea and toast and a chat? Pre schoolers welcome to come and play. Enjoy some ‘Me time’ before work or shopping!
Do you want to find a locally based leisure activity you can walk to?: Woodlands Methodist Church is the base for classes during the week that you can get involved in. Why not sing with the Dale Singers on Monday evenings from 7.30pm? This is a friendly choir that gives concerts regularly. Tenors and basses particularly welcome! Contact Joan on 01423-569254 for more details. Lose weight with Weight Watchers also on a Monday from 5.30pm to 6.45pm. Call in any Monday and meet Brenda and the rest of the team. Harrogate Male Voice Choir rehearses on Tuesdays from 7.30pm. Keep fit with T’ai Chi on a Wednesday evening from 7.15-8.15pm. This is an open class run by Paul Kenny. More information is available on the website www.leefamilystyle.com. Zumba Gold classes are held on Thursday mornings from 10.30-11.15am. This is a varied dance based workout for all ages run by Jo Starkings from the Chatsworth Dance Centre and classes are Pay as you Go. Keep the kids active with their own karate class on Thursdays from 5.30pm. Stuart Gibson is the instructor and more details can be found on the website www.harrogatekarate.com . The St Aelred Irish Dance Group runs classes on Friday nights from 4.30-7pm for children and adults.
Greenfield Court’s Cafe: is open during the week from 10.15am to 11.30am and from 3.15pm to 4.30pm. Come and enjoy coffee and homemade cakes in a relaxed home from home atmosphere.
