Cricket Club Open Day: as everyone can see when driving by the cricket field the new cricket pavilion is going up fast and it is going to be a very impressive building. To celebrate progress and to let the village see the new premises and learn just how lively the club is in all sections, the club invites everyone to a barbecue on Sunday afternoon, September 8. There will be games and activities for all the family as well as great food, all for a very modest £2 for adults and just £1 for children.

Quiz Evening: the first quiz of the winter season will be held in the village hall on Friday, September 13, 7 for 7.30pm start. Tantalizing questions will be set by Dave and Sally Walker and there will be a pie and sweet supper to feed the inner man. Tickets are £10 with proceeds for the Whixley and Green Hammerton churches. Please contact Enid Fisher 331031 for further details.

Sponsored Walk: there is a chance to prove your fitness and discover the highways and byways of our district on Sunday, September 15 by taking part in a sponsored walk around the Benefice. Starting from St Mary’s, Great Ouseburn at 10am and walking to Christ Church, Marton- cum-Grafton, on to the Ascension, Whixley where soup and sandwiches will be available for lunch, across the fields to St Thomas’s, Green Hammerton and back via Holy Trinity, Little Ouseburn, total distance 12.5 miles with a shorter option of seven and a half miles. There are sponsorship forms in the churches or from church members or if you just want to go it alone a donation of £5 is suggested and all the money you raise will go to the church of your choice.
