A FUNDRAISING weekend is taking place at the Matalan store at St James Retail Park in Knaresborough.
All proceeds from the event will be going to The Chris Shoesmith Global Foundation, a new charity set up in memory of the Knaresborough man.
Chris was a manager at the Matalan store and drowned while travelling in Laos in South East Asia in June this year. He had also been a manager at other Matalan stores, spending more than eight years with the company.
From today, August 26 to Monday, August 29, there will be a raffle, tombola, homemade cakes, football blind card game and a second-hand book stall and staff are hoping customers will help them reach their target of raising £1,000 over the weekend. Prizes including sports vouchers and tickets for matches and a £50 voucher for Matalan have been donated from local groups and organisations.
The foundation is being set up by Chris’s mum, May, and brother Andy, and aims to help backpackers going to Asia and their families.
