Harrogate is flying the flag for England ahead of their World Cup opener.
New Council Leader, Coun Richard Cooper, raised the flag of St George atop the Harrogate Borough Council offices ahead of England’s first World Cup match on Saturday.
England take on Italy in their first Group D encounter on Saturday June 14 at 8pm and the council ensured they were on hand to lend their support.
Coun Richard Cooper, who was elected as Council Leader last week, posed for pictures with the flag before raising it for all of Harrogate to see.
He said: ““We should be proud of our national sports teams and, on the eve of England’s first match, Harrogate district is backing our boys. While England remain in the World Cup, we are going to keep the flag of St George flying above our Council offices.
“I’m certainly hoping we can fly it all the way to the final on 13 July.”
