Lofthouse Village Hall: committee extend an invitation to the local community to attend their open day, to be held on Saturday, October 28 from 2-4pm. This is to give the opportunity to have a look at the newly re-furbished kitchen, enabled through a Lottery Fund grant and to see improvements made to the toilet, facilitated by the money raised over recent years due to the hard-working committee and through the generosity and support of local people. The committee express their appreciation for all their support and also to Brian Firth, Euan Challis and Dan Atkinson, who completed the work. Thanks also go to Manor Carpets, Summerbridge, who fitted the floor covering free of charge and who kindly contributed towards the cost of the carpet. Another date for your diary, is Friday, November 15, when at 7pm, Dorothy and David Morland will be giving a slide show entitled A Sound and Vision Spectacular featuring more scenes and music from their extensive collection. Cost of the event is £5 which includes a pie/peas supper.

United Church Service: will be held on Sunday, October 20, starting at 9.30am at St Chad’s, Middlesmoor, followed by refreshments and parish quiet day at St Mary’s Church, Ramsgill, ending with a Celtic Communion.

Cinema in the Dale: will be showing Summer in February on Saturday, November 2 at 7.30pm at Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall. This is a great opportunity to go see the production filmed in Cornwall, based on a true story which is linked to the famous Newlyn Art School, to which our local Ramsgill artist, Sarah Garforth, has a connection. The film stars Dan Stevens (who played the part of Matthew Crawley in Downtown Abbey) and Dominic Cooper (of Mamma Mia fame) and tells the story of a love triangle, one of which was Sir Alfred Munnings, President of the Royal Academy of Art. Tickets, costing £5, are available from Pateley Bridge Pharmacy or available on the door.

Lofthouse School: dates for your diary, starting tomorrow, October 18, when at 6.30pm a domino drive will be held at the school. Then on Saturday, November 2, a quiz night will be held at the Crown Hotel, Lofthouse at 9pm with a £20 winner’s prize, Bags2School on November 7 and

the school Christmas Fair on November 30 from 10am-12noon. More details to follow.
