Osprey Sighting: has caused some excitement in the Upper Dale. Nidderdale Birdwatchers’ chairman, Ros Wade, states that she saw the rare bird on March 17 around the Silver Hill area, flying alongside a red kite! The bird stayed around Gouthwaite for a while, then headed off east, probably to the Lake District or Scotland. Ros says: “It was a significant sighting, one which I was very lucky to experience. It was so exciting to see such an iconic bird!” Although Ros was the first to spot the bird in our local area, she informs us that 24 sightings of ospreys have been recorded in Yorkshire since March 9. If you are interested in birdwatching and would like to know more about the Nidderdale Birdwatchers’ programme of events, then please contact secretary, Angus Gosman, on (01423 755276) or email email@example.com
