Ripon Motor Club: vice-president, Barry Robinson, has sent in the following report, as it includes some Nidderdale riders: “Last Saturday night, at the Millstones Restaurant, 120 guests and award winners battled the snow to attend the Ripon Motor Club’s annual dinner, awards presentation and dance. The awards presented to local Nidderdale riders are as follows: Derek Wickers Memorial Trial (Youth Class B): 1 Tom Geldart, Pateley Bridge; Artie Ratcliffe Vase Trial (Novice): 1 Richard Shepherd, Fellbeck; Youth Class A: 2 Tom Geldart, Pateley Bridge; Star Trophy, Over 40s: 1 Michael Platts, Darley; Novice 50/50 course: 2 Norman Shepherd, Fellbeck; Youth Hard Course: 2 Tom Geldart; Small Wheels Hard Course: 2 Elliott Payne, Summerbridge. The evening also raised £200 for the Wilf Ward Trust. Also a Christmas charity trial, organised by precision engineer, Dave Mawer from Kirkby Malzeard, raised significent sums for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and British Heart Foundation. Last year the club staged ten trials. In total, they attracted 1,034 competitors from the ages of four to 70. The Acklams Motorcycles Summer Championship series alone, brought in almost 900 contestants in the seven qualifying trials and the company have signified their intention of sponsoring their 13th consecutive summer series. The year’s events had included special categories for young riders and beginners, which will continue as the club enters its 104th year.”
