Farmers/Buyers: turned up in large numbers to attend the annual show and sale held last week at Pateley Bridge Auction Mart, despite the forecast of more snow. David Prince reports: “The sale of ‘show potential’ cattle offered 70 excellent quality store cattle, along with 22 cull cows. The judge, Steven Eastwood of JB Eastwood, Emley, Huddersfield had a difficult task. Eventually he placed Middlesmoor farmer, Alan Firth, with his outstanding British Blue heifer, as supreme champion, which was sold to P & C Langstaff of Bishop Auckland for £920. Mr Firth also gained second place with his slightly larger heifer, also sold to P & C Langstaff for £960 and third place with another heifer, sold to J Waind of Malton for £770. It was a successful day for Mr Firth as he also won first prize with his British Blue steer, bought by J Waind for £850. The second prize was awarded to Glyn Bell of Hebden, Skipton whose steer was sold to D & J Voakes of Goldsborough, Knaresborough and third prize went to Keith Verity of Lofthouse, whose animal was sold to G Taylor of Risplith, Ripon. The sale was kindly sponsored by Farmers & Mercantile Insurance, Midgley Motor Cars and Dugdale Nutrition. The next sale will take place on February 2.” Thanks go to David Prince for his farming report.
