SHOWING the strain on their faces, all the teams taking part in the Boxing Day Tug of War event in Knaresborough earlier this week gave their best for the gruelling contest.
An annual event now for the past 44 years, traditionally mens and womens teams representing the Half Moon pub and the Dropping Well pub take part in the tug of war at Low Bridge with the rope stretched across the River Nidd and each team doing three pulls before the winners are announced.
Crowds of spectators always turn out to enjoy the riverside event and it’s a welcome chance to meet up with families and friends. This year, the Half Moon pub was shut for a complete refurbishment since it closed at the end of September, but business was brisk at the Dropping Well with many people dropping in to enjoy some seasonal refreshments.
