TRIBUTES have been paid to a Harrogate teacher who has tragically died after suffering severe burns.
Science teacher at Rossett High School, David Charlesworth, 43, died late yesterday afternoon.
He had been fighting for his life at Pinderfields Hospital since suffering devastating burns in a fire in Harrogate.
Paramedics and firefighters from Harrogate fought to save him after the fire in Green Lane at 3.30am on Wednesday morning.
Today, stunned students at staff at Rossett High School have paid tribute to a “popular and well regarded” teacher.
One student said Mr Charlesworth was “possibly one of the best teachers Rossett has ever had”, while another said he “made science worth turning up for.”
Headteacher Pat Hunter said a special assembly had been held at the school yesterday morning.
“We are all naturally shocked and devastated by what happened in the early hours of Wednesday,” she said.
“David was an excellent teacher, very well liked by both staff and students, and there is a great sense of loss amongst all of us.”
