An elderly woman is in a critical condition in Leeds General Infirmary after a collision near Ripon.
An elderly female pedestrian was hit by a black Vauxhall Corsa at Hutton Bank at around 3.35pm yesterday, Monday, January, 9. She suffered serious head injuries and was flown to Leeds General Infirmary by air ambulance, where she remains. Her condition is described as “critical”, a police spokesman said.
The woman was hit as she crossed the A61 Harrogate road after leaving Ripon city centre.
She was carrying shopping bags as she crossed the carriageway towards Sharow Lane.
The road was closed in both directions after the collision as police conducted their investigations into the incident.
Investigations are still going on, and police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Officers would like anyone who saw either the pedestrian or the black Vauxhall Corsa to contact them urgently.
Anyone with information urged to contact Traffic Constable Steve Wood on 101 – select option 2 – and ask for him by name.
