A COMMUNITY rail day led by train operator Northern Rail has raised £1,000 for two charities.

More than 600 people visited Harrogate train station to see attractions including a miniature steam train, historic and new fire engines, an iconic Bristol Lodekka bus, a tank, face painters and films of Harrogate in years gone by.

The family event was also attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Knaresborough – Couns Andrew and Christine Willoughby – and funds raised by the day will be split between Cancer Research UK and the Railway Children Charity which each receive £500.
